The Endangered Look

This was photographed against dark undergrowth and underexposed by a stop. Didn’t include its opened train as that might come across as too cliche, maybe next time.

Instead I captured its head held high against its feathers. At ISO200, I was getting a 1/125-second shutter speed but it was still quite adequate for the 600mm equivalent focal length. As this was a small sensor camera, I didn’t want to push the ISO any higher.

Nell had captured these at ISO100 under a overcast sky. It was actually pouring outside. The camera had given her a shutter speed of 1/100 second for the equivalent focal length of about 500mm but Nell had still managed to come away with a sharp image.

Rushing Home For Dinner

This was captured with a 1/2-inch sensor camera, an unpopular kit for landscape and low-light work. Exposure was biased 2 stops darker to preserve highlights. Mid-tones were then brightened in post separately for the sky and the sea.

This was taken with a 1/2-inch sensor bridge camera, an unpopular tool for landscapes but quite adequate for small images like this. The capture was underexposed by 2 stops to keep sky details. The sea was then brightened a little in post to show subtly the boat and some stakes in the water.
